5.0 out of 5 stars great journal
Reviewed in the United States on 8 May 2025
My daughter has always struggled with confidence, so I’ve been looking for ways to help her build a more positive self-image. This journal has been an absolute game-changer for us.
  • The combination of inspiring stories and thoughtful tasks has really made a difference. She reads the stories on her own, and it’s amazing to see how they resonate with her. Each story seems to spark a little more belief in herself, and as she completes the tasks, I can see her starting to realize her own strengths and capabilities.

What I really love is that she works through the journal independently, at her own pace, which has been a huge boost to her self-esteem. The activities are simple but powerful, and they encourage reflection, goal-setting, and positive thinking, all of which have been so helpful in supporting her growth. It’s given her the opportunity to focus on her accomplishments, strengths, and the positive aspects of her personality, rather than her doubts.

In addition to the more reflective tasks, the journal also includes fun activities like coloring pages, which she thoroughly enjoys. These pages provide a nice balance to the more serious tasks and give her a chance to unwind while still engaging with the journal’s themes. It’s been great for fostering creativity and relaxation, too.

Overall, I am so grateful for this journal. It’s not only helping my daughter work through her confidence challenges, but it’s also become a positive and empowering routine that she looks forward to. I highly recommend it to anyone with a child who could use a little boost in confidence or who simply enjoys journaling as a way to express themselves.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Life Journal for Kids...is not just for kids!

This Life Jjournal for Kids is not just for kids! It is a fantastic parent tool to use to connect deeper with your child and help them discover themselves and what matters to them. The bonus is your child also gets to know you as a person if you choose to be the "buddy sharing". This all happens in the course of 10 -20 minutes...oh...and you will have lots of fun!!

It is so good that I will recommend this book /Journal to anybody!

[this review was written unprompted by my 8 year old. They loved working through it and it was well structured with the Journal Buddy idea and the stories. They have never felt inclined to write a review before, so this is high praise indeed.]

I am sorry. I don't think this book is worth S$43, or S$44.
    1. Too thin,
    2. The contents are educational, to illicit responses from kids. The issue is it is not a content driven book like it's written by a Professor for that kind of price.

Just what we have been looking for. A journal that helps build confidence and creativity. Plus, it’s a great bonding activity with your child. My son asks to sit down and do it! It’s been a struggle to get him to read or write but this is something he looks forward to once a week with me.

I brought this journal for my son who has adhd and rarely sits for long periods of time without getting bored. He loved this journal! It’s helped him to be self reflective, something kids of today need. I highly recommend it. He’s finished it and asked for another.

I rarely write reviews, but had to for this journal. My 8 year old son is going through big emotions and self doubt. This journal has been excellent in helping us work through it. We fill out a couple pages each night and he's enjoying it so much. It really has helped him recognize his virtues and feel better. Highly recommend for all kids.

5.0 out of 5 stars Such a great connecting tool!
Reviewed in the United States on 17 March 2024
I’m a stepmom to a wonderful little girl and I’ll tell you connecting with her while mom has been reluctant to support her in gaining more confidence in the idea that I will not be going anywhere soon and dad will always be there for her, mom seems to think that poisoning her thoughts with negativity and hate will keep her from making any type of relationship with me. Well joke is on her because I LOVE my SD and I’m no quitter.

This book has all the tools to help you get inside the mind of a child and great conversation starters. And because the “journal buddy” is involved and has to participate as well, both she will learn from me and I will learn from her! Good luck stepparents! 🥰

  • First off, I had little faith in this activity but tried it anyway - after all there are a lot of great reviews of it. I got a copy for my 7 year old, and one for me as well, so it wouldn’t be a writing exercise for him. He really likes working with this journal. We each do an exercise then talk about the answers. Some are the same, some are totally different. This gives us a launching pad for conversations about the good and the bad aspects of every day life for a 7 year old. That, in my opinion, is an awesome view of his daily life.
  • My kiddo is very smart, kind, funny and talented, but he has always struggled from a very early age with being too timid to try things he thinks are “too hard” and often gives up easily if things don’t come naturally. It affects his ability to try to learn new things at school and even his willingness to do sports and competitive activities in a group (although he thoroughly enjoys and excels at each of those things in the comfort of our own home). We’re only about 1/2 through the book so far but he really seems to enjoy it. I love how the reflection activities involve both the parent (or grandparent buddy, sibling etc) and the child, it really helps the kids to see examples of how adults also struggle and overcome things. He has really enjoyed the activities and stories so far.
  • I got this for my 8 year old who has been having some big emotions. She loves completing the pages and finds it fun and helpful for when she's feeling down.
  • My son has no interest in sitting down and writing..missed the return window, so im stuck with it..maybe if they made this into an app or some on a screen my child with be interested
  • I wanted to review this journal because it has been such a blessing to me and my 7 year old son. He has struggled with confidence for quite some time and just in the first chapter I watched him light up and really got to see what he thought of himself. I was so excited when I realized that there was a podcast to listen along with as we work through the journal. We both enjoyed it! This is such a great buy. I will buy this for my other 2 sons when they are of age.
  • Granddaughter loved her journal.
  • My son has had confidence issues these last few years. I’ve been doing this journal with him for a few weeks and now he looks forward to it and wants to keep going each night. I am the journal buddy and I read and write, but it’s more about the conversation we have and as we go on, he’s wanting to draw the picture or write and it’s just amazing to see. Have already recommended to family and friends.
  • This journal has an unexpected treat: it asks the owner of the journal to name a journal buddy who gets to write a little bit in it. I love this extension of trust through friendship. My 7-year old carries it around and loves the little activities.

  • My 8 year old is not interested in the slightest. I tried being her "buddy" and starting it with her, but I realized it's basically like school work. Why would any kid want this.
  • This journal is really nice. I purchased 2. My intention was for my 6 year old, but wanted to keep it fair so ordered one for my 4 year old too. I knew it would be a bit too much for my 4 year old, but that's okay. There are definitely some pages he can understand, and we focus on those. My 6 year old has really enjoyed it though! It makes me happy to watch her confidence build as she and I work through it.
Brief background: we've had a lot within our family (health related) and with starting school this year, the anxiety was growing. This journal was absolutely helpful, in addition to other support.
  • She is 10 and 4th grade has been a lot for her. This book helps with her anxiety and gets her feeling confident in herself!
  • My book arrived dented and bruised. The whole back was warped and it did not close correctly. It was shipped in a thin envelope that was no protection during its long journey to us. I had an hour conversation with Amazon to receive a refund. The content is great but the pages are off center. For the price, this was a big disappointment.
  • I think every child should have this workbook. My son loves it. It helps with self esteem
  • I have seen this journal advertised many times and am all for growth mindset. This will be perfect for her birthday as she is becoming very independent and also doing some soul-searching. Really neat pages. Not quite as large as I expected it would be (not 8.5x11 size) - my fault for not reading the specs. But it is fine. I doubt it will lay flat as some said. Wanted to mention this bc I am an avid journaller and that's an important feature. Overall, very nice book.
  • The content is great and my daughter can’t wait to open it when she comes home from school. Highly recommend!
  • My daughter and I enjoy taking time each week to do a chapter together. We are both learning sbout each other and it's opening the doors for more conversations. So glad I got this!
  • Product is good for someone who needs a lot of prompts.
  • This captivating journal has become an invaluable tool in my child’s personal growth. Through it’s engaging prompts, uplifting quotes, and interactive exercises, it has successfully nurtured a resilient and optimistic attitude towards learning.

  • Bought this for my nephew and he loves it. He writes in it diligently and it also gives us good conversation topics. Highly recommend for all children.
  • specifically requested by granddaughter and she enjoys using it
  • I bought this for two of my sibling students whose parents were going through a divorce, and they were both absolutely in love with it. Both of their parents sent me thank you emails, and one of the parents cried when the kids came home with these. They've been using them for a few months now, and both kids still talk about their journals to me. Absolutely fabulous gift for a kid, especially if they're going through a difficult time.
  • My son loved it! He’s been doing this everyday! I’m glad it has good stuff for kids
  • Nice, hard-back book with great questions to trigger journaling ideas.
  • This is an amazing tool to create opportunities for conversation with your kid that promote self awareness, confidence and growth. I have a 9yo and he love when we take time to work on the book together. Keep in mind this book is designed for a parent/guardian to assist as a partner in filling out the book with the child, not for solo work. I hope they make more books!!!
  • I thought my kids would be super into this and they weren't. They are 9 and 11. Maybe too old? Not sure. It thought it was a great idea but they both were just sort of like "meh." Too bad!
  • My grandson loves the book!
  • My daughter has all of the products produced by Big Life Journal. There are so many ways to implement the teachings but the main thing is that it is showing my daughter how to be herself and handle difficult situations through application of the exercises but also through examples. Through the stories. Learning how her brain and heart work and are connected... we have gifted the book many times. Including giving it to her Montessori teacher!
  • This book is exactly as described and I was not disappointed! The content and illustrations are smart, well drawn and written which certainly helps to keep my 7 and 10 yrs old engaged. I recommend this book to all children. I feel its nothing but helpful to write down any thoughts, ideas and fears that they might be experiencing. It also helps to create a dialogue with your child, which sometimes can be challenging in itself.

  • My granddaughter loved this. Easy way for kids to get their feelings down on paper.
  • This book wasn’t new. It has been already used by someone else. Page 8 was already filled in.
    Lame and waste of time
  • My son is 8, and I just started noticing he is struggling with his confidence. I bought this journal and we have been journaling together every night. He loves it. I love watching him dig deep and its been so eye opening. Each chapter doesn't take much time at all. We have been averaging 2 chapters at a time. The journal is super engaging to the child and their journal buddy. Highly recommend.
  • I brought this journal to help my 9 y/o grandson understand and talk about his feelings. He Loves it and I enjoy reading it with him and talking about examples with him as it makes him understand that he is not alone in his feelings and how to express himself better.
  • Mama knew exactly what we were getting but Papa thought (from looking at the pictures) that the actual book would be much bigger. No worries, Mama and our soon to be 8-years-old already love the book in hand.
  • I bought this not knowing what to expect. I love the book. It’s done with a partner and has support podcast and printable. Great for homeschooling also
  • Easy to read. Enjoyed the goal setting. Did not like social politics introduced throughout the book.
  • Helps kids process their feelings. It seems especially hard to be a kid these days and this guided journal helps identify kids’ problems. It should build a close relationship with whomever is guiding.
  • My son is 9. He has gone through a lot in the past year and struggles to talk about his feelings. He dove right into this book and hopefully it will help him navigate his feelings and maybe even talk about his feelings better. We are so happy with this purchase!!!
  • My daughter wanted this book to read and fill in with her young sons. They are enjoying doing this together and filling it in. Gives them a great opportunity to interact and opens up discussions. Will be a great memory to look back on when they’re older

  • Most importantly, my grandson (the recipient) loves it
  • Such a great way to start the day with my seven-year-old and listening to the podcast
  • I originally ordered this for Christmas for my 7 yr old grandson, who lives some distance away in Colorado. He loved it, the questions and the pictures!!! He also decided I should be his “journal buddy.” So I ordered one for me and we work on them, talking and coloring, together over FaceTime. It’s awesome♥️
  • Facebook is a great confidence builder. I bought it for my 11 year old daughter. We do a few pages every night and it adds a positive spin on growing up in societee. Shows kids how to be confident and respectful at the same time
  • Spending 50$ for two books and they arrive in a bag with all edges bent. Should have just bought second hand at a flea market. Would ask for new books, but I’m sure they will arrive in another bag. Only reason for any stars is the content.
  • We purchased this for my daughter to use in addition to her in person therapy sessions. It has helped her immensely and she is now graduating from therapy! Will definitely look into getting the next step one for her as she gets older.
  • I bought this journal for my daughter so she could work along while listening to the podcast. Its a great resource if you are trying to encourage a growth mindset. Depending on your childs age and maturity, its ideal for ages 7-10.
  • My grandson and I are doing this journal together. While we may stray off topic, we are enjoying the sharing and learning (for both of us) in our journey! Highly recommend it.
  • I got this for my 7 year old and we made it part of our bedtime routine. She understands the content and she gets to express herself through the activity pages.
  • This is a great journal for kids. Easy to understand and use. It introduces the kids to the concept of growth mindset, enabling them to think positively and build on life's events, big and small. My kids love it.

  • Great gift for teenage girl
  • I got this for my 8 year old to help with anxiety and negative self talk. He took to it immediately without any pushing from me and he tells me all the time how he loves it.
  • I bought this because all the other homeschooling moms swore by it. They said it was so good, so I made the purchase without doing much of my own research. Shame on me! Once it arrived I took one look at it and knew none of my kids would write so much as a single word in its pages.

The term "journal" implies that there is a lot of empty space for writing one's thoughts. This book doesn't have any of that - it is clearly a workbook. Like a school workbook, it has stories for you to read and then invites you to answer questions. If that is what you want, then you'll likely find this book worth the money. But if you are looking for a JOURNAL, this product is not for you.
  • I purchased these for my niece for Christmas, she’s 8. I have to say she was excited about the journal but super pumped when I shared that WE were going to do this together.
  • The journal is very interesting and interactive. Not too much to overwhelm but just enough to start good conversations with kids. Bought it for a 7yr old boy
  • Thanks!
  • The book was delivered bent & bruised! It was a time sensitive gift and my kid didn’t have the patience to return it so kept the book. But horrible shipping.

    It didn’t even come sealed.
  • Bought this as a gift for my 10 niece.
  • I like the way it had a story and then you got to write something and then color picture.
  • My children are 5 and 8 and we’ve been enjoying completing this journal daily.
