(Empowerment)

Grandpa & Lewy by Jennifer Randazzo
Grandpa & Lewy is a celebration of hope, love, and warmth and shows a special bond between a grandfather and a young boy, who always finds new ways to help his grandfather remember that Lewy can bring so many changes in your body and can make our life hard, but can not change the love and the way we feel for each other.
This book follows a young boy who shares a special bond with his grandpa, and they spend most of their time together, but soon, grandpa behaves strangely, and sometimes he forgets things and rules of games etc. Then his mother told him that Grandpa has Lewy Body Dementia, so things can be challenging sometimes, but you can make his life a bit easier with your love and understanding. The boy misses the things that he used to do with his grandfather, but realizes the love they share is always so special.
The book has captivating illustrations that capture the essence of this story very beautifully and show the children how our love and care helps them get through their tough times.

I highly recommend this book to children so they can cherish their bond with grandparents, and I'm sure children will enjoy this heartwarming story that addresses the physical and mental changes caused by Lewy Body Dementia.

📕Book Name : Grandpa & Lewy

📕Author : Jennifer Randazzo

📕My rating : 4.6/5

📕We all know how big physical and mental issues are especially in today's world where certain people are coming out of their shell and sharing their mental & physical issues whereas some set of people still tide to hide it.

📕The story is about the hope and encouragement that addresses physical and mental changes caused by the dementia.

📕 A beautiful modern storyline which depicts and guides young generation through a journey where they are thought of caring for someone who is suffering from dementia by offering encouragement, guidance, surrounding themself with positivity.

📕The tale revolves around a boy who loves his grandpa so much even though his grandpa is going through a lewy body dementia, a truly emotional part where you'll feel the story.

📕Though, he misses the beautiful memories he has created with his grandpa in the past but he realises their bond is special and they love each other and their bonding can never change.

📕A story dedicated to all age groups, a positive narration yet some emotional points and exceptional writing by authors.

📕 Vocabulary is easy to understand, simple words are used, read this it in one go, the author has written the sentences so beautifully it can be easily explained to children as well.

Grandpa and Lewy is a beautiful book about a young boy learning that his Grandpa has a special condition and isn't always able to control his body and moods. Through simple prose and captivating minimalist watercolor art, Lewy's love for his Grandpa are portrayed.

I was so teary as I read this book. The grandparent-grandchild relationship is well done and I liked learning about Lewy from the perspective of a child and the changes he sees in his loved one. He is willing to offer his own strength to help his grandpa make it through the tough times. Personifying Lewy as a squirrel was helpful in bringing together common attributes and separating the dementia from the person.

Adored it! It offers so many points of conversation with a child and I look forward to revisiting it.

Many thanks to the author for providing me a review copy of this book for my honest thoughts.

You are never aware of the types of issues a family can go through, unless they tell you. Most children, however, find it difficult to express the feelings they are having; especially when something big is happening to someone they love.

The author takes the experience of a dementia diagnosis of a beloved grandfather, and tells the story through the first person view of a child. Parents of children with a family member struggling with a Lewy Body Dementia diagnosis would find this book a good addition to their library.

Informative and Fun

I never knew that there was a different category of dementia, until I came across this book. The author does an awesome job at explaining both to adults and making it user friendly for children as well.

It’s written in the first person from the view of a child. If you are having a family member going through a Lewy Body Dementia diagnosis, this book would be ideal for helping younger family to cope.

Beautiful Helpful Story!
Grandparents are so special and this book does a great job highlighting how amazing they are. Having a grandparent with dementia can be extremely hard for kids to understand. This book hits home for my family. My elderly father in law lives with us and he has dementia. It can be very confusing for the kids and this book is such a very needed tool to help explain what is going on with grandpa. Love the helpful tips at the end for how to help a child cope also!!

This is a very informative book for younger children to understand a little bit of Lewey body dementia. It has helped my grandchildren understand some of their grandpa‘s behavior. It doesn’t go into great detail about the disease, but enough for them to understand there is a difference and things are going to change.

As an adult whose mother was diagnosed a year and a half ago it even helped me, and it has helped me explain this horrible disease to others. Purchased a few weeks ago and it’s read a lot around here. Thank you for sharing your story and giving LBD the attention it needs.

Not only does this book perfectly capture the many challenges of Lewy Body Dementia, but it does it in a kid friendly way. LBD is so tricky in the way it comes and goes and takes over all different facets of a person. This book helps to illustrate this for children and let them know their loved one is still there even when it’s hard for them to see. There are concrete examples given for many of the symptoms and challenges presented by LBD. This helps children identify the effects of Lewy and understand the changes in their loved one. As a 3rd grade teacher, and mother to a 3 year old, I highly recommend this book for children of all ages who have someone with LBD in their life!
