Dr Daniel Gibbs is one of 50 million people worldwide with an Alzheimer's disease diagnosis. Unlike most patients with Alzheimer's, however, Dr Gibbs worked as a neurologist for twenty-five years, caring for patients with the very disease now affecting him. Also unusual is that Dr Gibbs had begun to suspect he had Alzheimer's several years before any official diagnosis could be made. Forewarned by genetic testing showing he carried alleles that increased the risk of developing the disease, he noticed symptoms of mild cognitive impairment long before any tests would have alerted him. In this highly personal account, Dr Gibbs documents the effect his diagnosis has had on his life and explains his advocacy for improving early recognition of Alzheimer's. Weaving clinical knowledge from decades caring for dementia patients with his personal experience of the disease, this is an optimistic tale of one man's journey with early-stage Alzheimer's disease. Soon to be a documentary film on MTV/Paramount +.

A very helpful journey for anyone, especially those with, or knows someone, who has concerns about brain health. He explains the APOE gene that indicates your familial likelihood of having brain issues, what to expect on the journey, and a personal journal as to how a neurologist has navigated life with a tattoo (blood bleed) on his brain.

This book about Alzheimers was one of eight to twelve books I recently book about Alzheimer's disease. I like the fact it was written by a neurologist. His insights, knowledge, and personal experience gives some hope to those who deal with this disease. I know several people two have died of the disease, and one friend who has it but is in denial. I want to know more about this disease because it affects so many, and this was a good one to have in my search.

I liked that the author was living with Alzheimer’s but was doing his part to partake in changing his life routines to delay the later stages of the disease. Also he is involved in many trials that can potentially have an effect on prevention and treatment.

Dr. Gibbs presents his symptoms without self pity and discusses the effects his symptoms have on his life and his family’s life dispassionately. His comments on current medications and diagnostic tests available are very informative. This is a terrific book to reassure a reader who may fear he/she is experiencing symptoms of dementia.
